50 balls exercise – Putting

I found another exercise on golf.se, that i want to try out. This one is to test your ability to hole shorter putts between 1-5 meters.

It is a Par-72 strokes game, where you vary distance on every shot. 10 series on each distance between 1 and 5 meters,

I will try this exercise the next time i am on the putting green. Will be interesting to see where i am.

According to golf.se a scratch player should come in at 76.8 and a handicap 5 player at 79.1.

Today i tried it out on the putting green. Here is my score

I scored 86 (+14) and surprisingly the 1m putts was my worst score.

My score was not anyway near what i expected. I will try it next time with my ping putter, and maybe i can finally decide which putter to use.

I need to work on my putting routine, and then measure again.

A score of 87. Too little difference to decide. I need to work more on my putting game, and then redo the tests. I shot a video of this second attempt, which i might share later.

    • 2 Chip shots (10 and 30m)
    • 2 Pitch shots (20 and 40m)
    • 2 Lob shots (15 and 25m)
    • 2 Bunker shots (10 and 20m)

Points earned:
In hole            4 points
Within 1m    3 points
Within 2m   2 points
Within 3m   1 point

I have tried this one twice and i scored 11 points the first time and 9 points the second time. Next time i will try 5 series as suggested by the above sheet.

The Plan

My plan for  my golf game is to reach scratch handicap within the next 3 years. Does it sound ambitious? It is!

6.5/3 = 2.17 handicap points per year In average.

How will i reach this ambitious goal then?

The starting point

I was thinking about this journey to scratch handicap. I started playing golf back in 2004, and I immediately immersed myself in the game.

At the time i lived in Motala in Östergötland, Sweden. The golf club where i went through the beginners course in the game of golf, was Vadstena GK in Vadstena which is just a few kilometers south of Motala.

After 2 years or so i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and that caused me to give up golf for the next 5 years or so.

I moved to the south part of Sweden in the beginning of 2006. In 2011 i picked up the game once again.

Below you can see my handicap history, since 2004. I don’t know why it seems to start at 25, but that might be system related, since i grabbed the info from golf.se

Today I live in Lund and my home course is Malmö Burlöv GK which is a very nice 27 hole golf club just outside Malmö.

Here I am going to share my experiences from my journey to become a scratch golfer.

I am a 50 year old 6.5 handicap golfer. I have played golf for around 10 years in total. You can follow my progress here and on my youtube channel here.

I play a considerable amount of golf, mainly on my home course in Malmö Burlöv GK in Malmö Sweden.

I have also done a fair amount of travelling to Spain, Portugal and Turkey to play golf.
